Story plaque reads: The objectives of the Apollo Program were to land humans on the Moon and safely return them to the Earth. Six missions succeeded between 1969 and 1972 (Apollo 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17). Apollo 7 and 9 were earth orbiting test missions. Apollo 8 and 10 returned lunar pictures and tested components while orbiting the Moon. Due to a fire, Apollo 1 never flew and a malfunction prevented Apollo 13 from landing on the Moon. The successful lunar missions conducted milestone experiments and returned lunar samples to Earth. The Apollo Program is often recognized as the greatest achievement in human history.
This frame's featured medallion and 'First Footprints' emblem contains rare metal from Apollo command modules that flew to the moon. Only 250 of these medallions were produced for this Artist's Proof. The limited edition print is from Paul Calle's painting entitled, "The Great Moment" and is signed by this renowned artist. Calle was one of NASA's original artists who documented the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. In orbit around the moon print are NASA's official Apollo mission emblems. Also featured are official Apollo Program and NASA "Meatball" logo emblems.
